YouTube has announced that they are going to try and start selling music and video games over there website to try and raise revenue. Can this Google owned buisness make it stick. There idea for this is they are putting up advertisement around there videos across YouTube to sell music videos tickets etc. From this site they can either be directed to iTunes or amazon.com's mp3 area and buy the music or whatever they were looking for. There techniques for these advertisements so the 220 Million visitors of YouTube can veiw them as they browse the videos, they decided they could possibly scroll text across the bottom of videos as a form of advertisement so its easier for people to spot. From what CEO's of the company have said is that in 2009 YouTube will generate about 200 Million Dollars to jack up the revenue of a seemingly high revenue already. Id say be cautious of this because of all the hackers out there putting up fake advertisements and trying to steal your money. With YouTube being a big company its bound to have virus' in it. I would just stick to using iTunes on it own to make your own life easier and you wont be stuck with a major hastle later.

Greatest Technological Invention... Ever

Today, I write about the most important part of a college student's life. Through every pop culture reference to University, you see this. It is seen in movies, pictures, TV shows, and much more. I would go so far as to say the single greatest technological piece of the American University scene. What am I talking about? Funny you should ask, because its circular, delicious, and comes in a wide variety of toppings. I am of course talking about Pizza!!!!

Now, you are thinking, "How is he going to pull this one off? How is he going to relate pizza to technology?" Well, I'm glad you asked. The invention of the pizza was by a man named Sausagino Peperoni... I'm just kidding, I have no idea who started that wonderful idea. What I'm really here to talk to you about is the varying ways you can order pizza, through our good friend technology.

Say you are in the middle of campus, and are really starving. What do you do? Of course, you call up HotBox, Mad Mushroom, or any of the other varying pizza places West Lafayette has to offer. This is the first option. Simply call the place, tell them where you are, and it is brought to you. How Easy?

Another way to get pizza, is to go to the store, this is quite simple, and I'm not going to go about explaining this. Just know it's an option.

My third way is actually what I'm writing this about. I decided to order some pizza this weekend, and my friend informed me of a internet ordering service. All you have to do is get on the restaurant's website, and follow the links to the ordering service. The order is sent through, and the delivery men get it, and bring it to you. It's a wonderful idea for the lazy pizza lover (i.e. me).

NEW Keyboard for Your Phone!

Every day I watch as my friends pull out their phones to text. I unfortunately am behind in the times of cell phones so I do not have the luxury of texting. But every time I see anyone texting I wonder to myself, if I did have texting, how the hell I would be able to type anything in with such small buttons. My big fingers would most likely hit two buttons at the same time and then I would have to become good friend with the backspace button for all the mistakes. When I get texting, hopefully in the near future, I have found a solution to my multiple button spamming problem.

The answer is the Bluetooth Laser Virtual Keyboard. This keyboard is functional with any PDA, Smartphone, and computer that can harbor Bluetooth technology. Just for those who do not know, Bluetooth is short-range communication using radio frequencies to send data between two objects. In short, the keyboard sends what you are typing to the phone. The Virtual Keyboard is about the size of a matchbook which makes it really covenant for carrying around. It produces a full 63 key keyboard and it can approach typing speeds of a standard keyboard. The keyboard has a rechargeable battery that can last up to two hours of continuous typing not that anyone would attach text for two hours straight.

Now this might seem like a waste of time just because you would have to pull it out every time that you text, but think about it. Who does not want to show off a new gadget for their phone. With the Laser Virtual Keyboard you are able to type a whole conversation using keys you can actually hit instead of having to rely on the backspace button. The Virtual Keyboard can also be used for your computer so you can enjoy the use of it when you change your status on Facebook. The keyboard is a new way to immerse yourself in technological advancement and it also looks pretty cool too.

Purdue Emergency Notification System

As the world continues to connect with technology, it is possible to see many upsides to the coming together of the world. Yet, I can see the connection happening on a much smaller scale. What I’m talking about is the Purdue University Emergency Notification System. Now, I’m not saying Purdue is small by any means, but compared to the world, it is a small section.
The Purdue University Emergency Notification System is multilayered way of alerting all students that something potentially dangerous is going on. The system works with several different ways of communication. I received a text message a few days ago, testing the system, just in case an emergency were to occur. There is also a television message on Boiler TV, campus-wide sirens, email, and even a facebook group. Each of these sends a message making sure that the students are aware of something potentially life-threatening happening on campus.
This system is a fantastic idea, because it helps keep all 40,000 of us as safe as possible. 40,000 is a lot of people, and the system does a fantastic job of alerting people all across campus. All of my friends mentioned the text message that they received, showing that the system really does work.
I for one am glad Purdue has put this system into place. It gives me a sense of security, because I know that behind the scenes, people are looking out for me, wherever I am on campus.

Podcast???

A good way to tell if a piece of technology is deemed, “college worthy,” is to ask if your parents know what it is. If they do, it probably is not able to be considered college exclusive. If your parents stare at you with a clueless face, you may just have something new and cool that you can bring to your dorm, apartment, house, or wherever you live.
I recently came about this, when I was talking about Itunes’ videos known as a “podcast.” In the middle of the conversation, my father stopped me and said, “What are you talking about?” He had no idea what a podcast is, so I thought I would share with you what I shared with him, just in case you have not heard of one either. Or, you have heard of one but have no idea what it is, and continuously nod your head when people talk about them to you.
A podcast is a way of streaming videos across the internet. A podcast is a broadcast of something over the internet. The podcast can be anything, from “NBC Nightly News,” to “The best new videos on youtube.” What makes this different from searching for a video and downloading? It’s quite simple. The podcast search menu is through iTunes, and you simply have to look through the vast amount of them, and “subscribe” to the one you like. When you subscribe, it’s kind of like subscribing to a newsletter, or a magazine. When the new one comes out, it is automatically sent to your computer, and downloaded. That way, you don’t have to search for the new one every day.
Being a college student, I can’t live on a 100% fool proof schedule, so I use podcasts to watch the news and keep up with what is going on in our world. I watch NBC Nightly News daily, so I can make sure I’m not left behind when I hear about something happening in the world. But, remember, podcasts don’t have to be serious. There are several podcasts out there that are quite humorous, or downright silly. So, until next time, go download yourself a podcast.

TV ON ... CHANNEL CHANGED!

Last night I had my girlfriend over to watch some TV. As soon as she got to my dorm she stole the remote from me and started to surf the channels. She eventually stopped on some show that I have never heard of and she mentioned how she loved it. I instantly think "Great, another chick TV show!" After a couple minutes I asked her if I could see the remote to see what else was on. She of course says no and tells me that I am her boyfriend and I should watch whatever she wants. So, I spent the next hour thinking of ways to kill myself so that I might escape the mental strain on my ego. The Micro Spy Remote would have helped save some of my dignity last night.

The Micro Spy Remote is the new and improved TV-Be-Gone. The Micro Spy has the same features like being able to turn any TV off or on, but also comes with a few more perks. The Micro Spy has the ability to change the channel, increase and decrease the volume, and even mute a TV. This remote has been programmed to do all these virtues for almost every television on the open market. The Micro Spy is about the same size as the TV-Be-Gone remote, so it will easily fit on a keychain. You will be able to hide it from anyone you use it on.

Now when my girlfriend comes over to watch TV I will not have to suffocate myself with a pillow. I can just slip out my handy dandy Micro Spy Remote and flip the channel to a more reasonable time wasting show. This item would also be a great way to watch whatever you want whenever you want. Think about it, you go into a restaurant and the TVs in there are not playing the big college football game. So, you pull out your Micro Spy Remote and hit the channel button to surf through and find the game. With this remote every TV will now be under your control to do with as you so desire.

Technological Future

Many people wonder what the future would be like at the rate we develop new technology every day. We seem to keep innovation going so we can seek out easier means to go about our daily lives. For example the home computer we all know and love back in the 1970's was unheard of. So it's only taken us roughly 30's years to what seems to what could never happen in one person's life time. Other things like the compact cell phone. It seems to keep getting smaller and smaller, and it seems like to the ordinary person that there is just about a new line of better and faster and yet smaller cell phone for the ordinary person. So with just about any product you will see a computer in it now a days. With the way computers are being changed it is said that by 2015 Computers will get changed totally about every month, now there changing about every 6 Months.
With everything changing to computers to our daily lives let alone them getting smaller, our future from what I see looks both snazy and grim at the same time. You hear talk from all over about robots doing the jobs of people in our stead. Well what does it take to make a robot, a computer of course. These robots that engineers try to invent have the purpose to do things that ordinary humans could not. So think of it as a pully system, where you can use less energy for you to lift a certain heavy object a great distance. This means that we can use these robots to move very heavy objects with which a truck or some sort of vehicle could with less space to take up. If you've ever seen Ironman, this is one of my takes on what the future is going to look like. Not necessarily exactly like what he does but fairly close. So with robotic arms and the like we can lift cars on our own and even fly. I also see the downfall in this as it closely relates to iRobot. Obviously in the world of man there is going to be that one person that is inventing solely for one purpose, Power. So eventually we will get to taking humans out of the front lines of war and putting in robots to fight. With further bettering these machines we will try to make them closely related to humans in which we will try to put up artificial brains to make them think like humans. Now this is where iRobots relation comes in and it relates almost exactly. This is where the crisis of these machines come in is they then might realize that humans are inferior and they can take control of their own creators. This also relates to The matrix in a sense that machines take over. The one big crucial problem that people aways ask is will these robots take the jobs of humans and unemployment will rise around the world. Well if we take the Ironman approach and still require humans to run these pieces of technology then no they will still get paid, the main issue is people learning how to use the equiptment. I do believe that will come in time if this would ever happen and it might even help employ more people possibly.
But looking on the bright side of things you obviously see the betterment of society as a whole. With all of these new supercomputers people can live their lives easier and won't have to strain themselves everyday doing hard work. We can put in computers to refrigerators that have a bar code scanner on it and an Ethernet cable for the internet so when you swipe stuff out of your fridge it keeps track of how much of certain items you have in there so if you're getting low it automatically goes on line finds the lowest prices and orders from that certain place of the products you need and they end up at your front doorstep without you going to the grocery store. This does by the way exist in the world today if you were wondering. Even to some far off things these computers can let us explore space to its fullest. So now we can possibly use these to do further tests on other planets and also use them to find possible habitats that can make living possible on another planet. I've always looked at the bright side of technological advancement because if everyone believes that it can be great then we won't suffer the consequences of people fighting for power using these supercomputers as weapons.
