Alarms For The College Student

Lots of people seem to have trouble with waking up in the morning especially college students with 7:30 labs and they have to get it up at 6:30. This new product manufactured by Griffin Technology lets you customize the way you wake up in the morning. This Product is called the AirCurve. It's a dock for your iPhone or iPod and emits sounds through built in speakers. They emit sound about the same as a desktop speaker. The new base has a coiled waveguide, which eliminates the need for batteries and power adapters. It is said to be an ideal use for amplifying sound sufficiently to serve as an alarm clock. It is covered by a sleek polycarbonate that lets you enjoy the look of the dock. There is also a pass through slot in the dock so you can sync your iPhone or iPod as you keep it in the dock.

College students will love this product because it allows you to enjoy getting up in the wee hours of the morning when they listen to some of their favorite music. Most students don't enjoy the annoying sound of a clinging bell going off so its nice that they can pick and choose what they want to hear. The hole for the sync and the coiled waveguide make it more efficient for the user to access and do other projects on the iPhone or iPod. The price of the product is very reasonable for the average students budget. So if you hate getting up early in the morning or are having trouble with waking up at all then this is the product for you. 

Same Idea, New Outlet

My final installment of the week is devoted to a very old idea, just modernized. Who among my readers has ever used bubble wrap? Exactly. All of you. While searching my old standby website, thinkgeek.com, I found a brand new tool, useful for today's "electronic" generation.

I found something known as "Electronic Bubble Wrap." The idea itself is simple. It is a small keychain, with eight buttons on it. Each button has a different variation of the familiar "pop" of the plastic bubbles you get in items you get mailed to you. One thing I have failed to mention so far is pop number 100. When you reach this infamous pop, the noise heard is not the familiar pop, but a silly noise, such as a "boing," or a "bark."

Many of us out there are quite anal, and need something to do with our hands, and I feel that this is probably the best outlet for all of you compulsive people. This device lets you give into your impulses, and a fun, and slightly annoying fashion.

The product is a white keychain, with the aforementioned eight buttons. What I have not said yet is that each button actually feels like the texture of the "bubble wrap." So, it is truly like you are popping the real thing. There are not many feelings greater than popping this bubble wrap, so I say indulge all you want. The keychain is waiting for you. With new innovations and technologies, the world is becoming a much cooler place

Never Late Again!

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
It’s 8:30, just enough time to get out of bed and make your 9:30 class. You roll out of bed, start to get dressed, and suddenly a wave of panic hits you. Today is not Tuesday. You don’t have a 9:30 today. The class you do have, however, is a 7:30. Last night, while doing homework you got yourself confused and forgot the day. So, you have once again slept through the one class that actually takes attendance. That’s just wonderful. Isn’t there something that we can use to help us?
Lucky for you, I spend my days researching all kinds of neat items that will help college students just like you. Today’s newest product is called the “Neverlate 7-day Alarm Clock.” Imagine if you will, an alarm clock that has a separate alarm setting for each day of the week. So, you have a 9:30 on Tuesday, but a 7:30 on Wednesday? No problem. This clock has the ability to set different times for different days. Never again will you sleep through that early morning class (unless you really are that lazy).
The alarm clock comes with an AM/FM tuner, pretty standard for most alarm clocks these days. Something not so standard on this clock is the “Nap Timer.” There is a knob on the top of the alarm clock that you can set from 1-120 minutes. All you do is spin the knob to the desired time, and the clock will note the current time and set an alarm to go off in the desired amount of minutes. Need a quick 20 minute nap between classes? Just set it to 20 minutes, and enter dreamland.
This alarm clock has quite amazing features, but is still quite a small piece of equipment. It is only 5in tall, so space is definitely available when using it. It has battery backup, so you can still wake up, even during a power outage (but who among us wouldn’t use the excuse that the power was out?).

The Sun in a Jar???

Have you ever been in your room, or another room in your house and needed a light but couldn't find the switch? Well, technology has once again answered your how to questions. You are probably thinking, "Is he really reviewing a flashlight?" Well, you are wrong my friends. Today, I found something called "Sunlight in a Jar."
Upon searching for my newest idea to talk about, I just typed "geek stuff" into Google's search bar. One of the first sites to pop up was www.thinkgeek.com. This site is filled with all kinds of neat objects that the regular population might not enjoy, but geeks, like myself (I cringed at calling myself that) will love.
Now, back to the "Sunlight in a Jar." So, you are in your room, its dark, you don't want to wake your roommate. What do you do? You can't just turn on the light, cause he/she will surely wake up and get very crabby with you. So, you go to the next best thing. A light that will automatically recharge itself when kept in sunlight. To the untrained mind, it might seem like its "Sunlight in a Jar," hence the clever title.
The jar works by using a solar cell that charges up while in the direct light of sunlight. It is simply a mason jar, so the fashion group does not have to worry about it not mixing well with their decorated room. Anyway, you put the jar by the window, and it charges all day. When it gets dark enough, the jar senses that light is necessary and will put out light. The light comes in bright orange glow, or a cool moon blue.
So, you wake up at night and need a way to keep your roommate happy, and a way for you to finish your tasks. The sunlight in a jar is the perfect solution. It has a switch that you can use to turn on and off the light, so you are not constantly wasting the energy collected. Or, you can use it all day to keep your house illuminated at night. It might sound nerdy to you, but I can see a lot of dorm rooms, or apartments having these very soon, now that my millions of readers have found out about them. Note the sarcasm on the part about the millions of readers. With new innovations and technologies, the world is becoming a much cooler place.

Facebook: Problem With A Social Game

A social game played on Facebook called "PackRat" has reported to be causing problems for the site. PackRat is a simple game that involves graphic's "cards" and points as you obtain more of them. Some cards are common others are not. You obtain these cards by "stealing" them from other friends. One strategy people have found out is if they "friend" and "defriend" people they can block others from obtaining cards. With chaos of new accounts being made just for the game, Facebook has been sent into damage control mode.

People on Facebook have been receiving notices by Facebook moderators saying they will receive account deletions if they continue with what they are doing through the game. The main argument made by Facebook to the reason of there notifications is that "Facebook is a utility that connects you with the people around you, not a 'social networking site.' It is meant to help reinforce pre-existing social connections, not build large groups of new ones." Since this statement by Facebook was made people have been asking that question, Is Facebook a social network?

This News is great information to the college students of today because just about everyone uses Facebook to some degree. This should send up a flare to people who are very into using Facebook a lot that they need to be careful with there actions. Anything that a user might do on Facebook is monitored. If some action you take on Facebook comes close or is interpreted by the "Facebook Police" as an action that doesn't follow the guidelines of what Facebook is about they can kick you off of Facebook. I agree you can start from scratch again as a different name but you lose everything and I'm sure no one wants to do that. So enjoy your fun games with your friends over Facebook but be careful "they" have eyes everywhere and are watching you.

HP Playing Catchup

Welcome back to those who read my first blog and hello to those newbies out there. Today’s topic will be about Hewlett Packard’s, otherwise known as HP, sad attempt to catch up with Apple. HP has come out with their own version of the MacBook Air, called Voodoo Envy 133. Also they have developed a new desktop called the Voodoo Omen.

This new series of computers originate from a company that HP absorbed a few years ago called Voodoo PC. Voodoo PC use to be a company based out of Canada that specialized in high performance computing. HP used Voodoo PC to help them create a new computer called Blackbird 002 a year ago. Then with the help of Voodoo PC, HP decided it was time to put its foot in the door and play with the big dogs.

At the beginning of the summer HP announced that it had created a new MacBook Air but with an HP twist to it. This new laptop was called Voodoo Envy 133. Envy is just over half an inch high and weighs less than 3.4 pounds. It has a Voodoo IOS, Instant-On Solution, with makes it one of the fastest loading systems that HP has ever tried. The IOS allows users to almost instantaneously access the internet and Skype, which is software that allows you to make phone calls over the internet. Envy was developed using the smallest Intel Centrino technology, which are some of the best CPU chips in the world. HP says it might look small and insignificant but it still has all the typical functions associated with larger notebooks. Envy has Ethernet and wireless compatibilities; it also includes a wide selection of ports; and it even has a replaceable battery.

HP guarantees that the Envy may look cute and cuddly, but it can work just as hard as any normal desktop. You may think that the Envy would have to lose key features to come up with the final product but it does not. It actually has a very high performance record and it is a low-energy consumer. Envy comes with your favorite assortment of colors, a backlit keyboard, and a full thirteen inch LED monitor.

Now for the Voodoo Omen, it supports up to four graphics processing units. The motherboard has an integrated copper liquid cooling system, so you definitely will not have to worry about your computer overheating. The cooling system even has its own LCD auxiliary screen which allows you to the temperature of your computer and change it if need be. The Omen’s cooling system is all advanced thermal engineering with liquid cooling that runs quietly and it can perform at high processing levels.

The Voodoo Omen and Voodoo Envy 133 sound like some amazing computers. I cannot wait for the chance to try one for myself. HP is a great company and I wish them the best as they face the competition from Apple.

Google Taking Over The Internet!

WELCOME MY NAME IS TECHBOT! I am here to present you with the latest advances in technology. Today’s topic is about the brand new Google Browser.

Let me put it this way, Google got board of being the top search engine and decided to take over the rest of the internet. They have created a system that will allow them to see what you are doing without you even going to Google.com. The new browser that they created is called Chrome.

Chrome was revealed to the public on September 2, 2008. Google Chrome is the fastest and most reliable browser on the market. The new browser is all open-source which means the source code is readily available to the public. This is great for those programmers out there because we now can change it to what we want.

Google Chrome actually started development over two years ago. The browser was created from the ground up. Chrome’s new coding structure is supposed to help dispose of the browser’s interruptions so you have a smoother web experience. The new browser also helps manage the processing power of applications you use while on the web, like Google Maps. Chrome has a new security feature the keeps rogue websites from entering your computer by locking them to the browser. So in other words the browser takes the damage from the infected sites and spares your computer.

Google’s browser is unbelievable fast but being fast is not the only good thing about. Chrome lets you create application shortcuts to websites to put on your desktop. Meaning that you are given the chance to go to your desktop and click on the Facebook icon. In doing so, Facebook would instantly open up and you would not have to wait for the web browser to load. With that speed we can save two minutes on having to wait to change our status.

Another great aspect about Chrome is that there are page tabs. But they are no ordinary tabs; they have special aspects. For instance, you can switch between tabs while one is still loading. This makes it easier for you to switch between opening Facebook and writing blogs. Also, if your blog page should crash you are still able to switch to another tag without having all the other pages crash too. This helps keep memory from getting backed up and creates a smoother transition between pages. The tabs have been created so that you are able to pull them out of the browser window and create a new window.

Chrome does have a nifty though, every time you open the browser it brings up the nine most visited sites. This feature helps give the browser a more customized look. It makes it easier for you to return to pages that are more important to you. Also their security is set up to fight malware and phishing through a continually downloaded list of troublesome websites. Chrome does a good job of keeping cookies in check by deleting all of them every time you close the browser.

Google Chrome sounds like a great browser and I recommend everyone should try it out.
